Entering and updating brand names in the LUCID Packaging Register
First-time registration: enter brand names
Companies that distribute empty packaging or packaged products in Germany must enter the respective brand names when registering with the LUCID Packaging Register. A distinction is made between packaging subject to the system participation and packaging not subject to the system participation. You can also edit or delete your brand names, or add new ones at any time.
Existing registration: check and add brand names
Many companies are already registered with the LUCID Packaging Register. From 12 August 2026, they may be required to add brand names or adjust the ones already filed in LUCID.
This applies in particular if companies have products designed or manufactured under their own name or trademark by third parties or if companies bear extended producer responsibility due to domestic precedence.
Please note: where brands are concerned, it has generally been the case that the companies that produce and fill the products on behalf of an ordering party have registered the packaging with LUCID. In future, the companies bearing extended producer responsibility will have to enter the relevant brand names of the products or packaging in LUCID.
What you need to know about brand names
As a matter of principle, only enter brand names in the LUCID Packaging Register that you actually use, for which you are responsible, and under which you market your products. Only enter umbrella brands that you are currently using to distribute packaging or packaged goods in Germany for the first time.
It does not have to be a registered trademark under trademark law. Please do not enter any sub-brands into the LUCID Packaging Register. In addition, do not enter:
- Type designations, article specifications, model descriptions (e.g. headphones A10, headphones A15)
- Quantities (e.g. 50 or 100 grammes)
- Product descriptions (e.g. headphones, lubricant)
- Name of system operator
- 'No brand' or 'no name'
Please note: If you are using the same brand name of packaging that is subject to system participation and on packaging that is not subject to system participation, you are required to enter that brand name for both product categories in the LUCID Packaging Register.
Under the PPWR, you are also considered the responsible producer for imported third-party brands without an intermediary retailer if you make them available in Germany for the first time and thus initiate the domestic supply chain. You must enter these brands in your registration and fulfil the packaging law obligations.
However, if an intermediary retailer, importer or distributor initiates the domestic supply chain, it must bear the producer obligations.
Please note: in the case of third-party brands, always check who is the party that initiates the domestic supply chain. Only if you are that party are you required to enter the third-party brand in the LUCID Packaging Register and fulfil the packaging law obligations.

Go to the table of brand names and look for the brand name you would like to re-categorise. Click the 'Edit' symbol in the 'Actions' column to the right and assign the brand name to the right category.
Have you made all your changes? Then scroll down and click 'Next'. Review the summary of the information you have entered. Scroll down to the 'Declarations' section and check the boxes. Click 'Submit registration changes' to save your changes.
The ZSVR will send out an electronic notice (administrative act) for this brand name change. The corrected brand names will be visible in the LUCID Packaging Register starting from the following day.
