Explanation
Retail packaging and grouped packaging for wine, wine-based cocktails and wine-like drinks in quantities of 22 litres or less typically accumulate as waste with private final consumers – i.e. private households and comparable sources of waste generation (within the meaning of section 3 (11) VerpackG) such as food and beverage businesses, canteens and commercial kitchens. Single-use beverage packaging for wine, wine-based cocktails and wine-like drinks that is exempt from deposit under section 31 (4) nos. 7b and 7c VerpackG is subject to system participation.
Regardless of any deposit obligation, wine, wine-based cocktails and wine-like drinks packaging with a bundling function is subject to system participation in quantities of 22 litres or less.
Gift packaging containing 22 litres or less typically accumulates as waste with private final consumers – i.e. private households and comparable sources of waste generation and is subject to system participation.
Shipment packaging for wine, wine-based cocktails and wine-like drinks of all kinds typically accumulates as waste with private final consumers – i.e. private households and comparable sources of waste generation and, as such, is subject to system participation.
Specials
A folding box made of paperboard to be filled with six, eight, ten or even twelve 0.75 or 24 0.2 litre glass bottles filled with wine or wine-based cocktails does not constitute packaging subject to system participation because it typically accumulates as waste in retail settings. For example, traditional 6-pack wine boxes constitute transport packaging. Single-use plastic bottles (except for glass or metal bottles where only caps, lids, labels, stickers or wrappings are made of plastic) and beverage cans in quantities between 0.1 and 3 litres and filled with wine and wine-based cocktails with a wine content of at least 50 percent and alcohol-free or low alcohol wine according to section 31 (4) no. 7b VerpackG are subject to deposit. This also applies to (processed) wine-like drinks and cocktails with a content of wine-like products of at least 50 percent pursuant to section 31 (4) no. 7c VerpackG.
