Explanation
Retail packaging and grouped packaging for fruit juices, fruit nectars and vegetable juices in quantities of 22 litres or less typically accumulate as waste with private final consumers – i.e. private households and comparable sources of waste generation (within the meaning of section 3 (11) VerpackG) such as food and beverage businesses, canteens and commercial kitchens.
Single-use beverage packaging for fruit and vegetable juices and non-carbonated fruit nectars that is exempt from deposit under section 31 (4) nos. 7h and 7i VerpackG is subject to system participation.
Regardless of any deposit obligation, fruit juice, fruit nectar and vegetable juice packaging with a bundling function is subject to system participation in quantities of 22 litres or less.
Retail packaging and grouped packaging for fruit juices, fruit nectars and vegetable juices in quantities exceeding 22 litres are not subject to system participation because they typically accumulate as waste in industrial or large commercial enterprise settings. Bag-in-box systems are one example of this kind of packaging.
Shipment packaging for fruit juices, fruit nectars and vegetable juices of all kinds typically accumulates as waste with private final consumers – i.e. private households and comparable sources of waste generation and, as such, is subject to system participation.
Specials
Single-use plastic bottles (except for glass or metal bottles where only caps, lids, labels, stickers or wrappings are made of plastic) and beverage cans in quantities between 0.1 and 3 litres and filled with fruit or vegetable juices or non-carbonated fruit nectars according to section 31 (4) nos. 7h and 7i VerpackG are subject to deposit.

Delineation criterion
Delineation criterion ×

Criterion that relates to a specific product and determines whether the shipment, retail or grouped packaging in question is subject to system participation.

For food packaging, that delineation criterion often is quantity. For packaging filled with other products, the delineation criterion tends to be the number/volume or unit of the individual products contained in the packaging. Depending on the product, other criteria may be used within the scope of an overall market assessment to delineate or determine whether the system participation requirement applies to a packaging, such as the stress class in the case of laminate products.
